BOMA-Atlanta’s Community Service Committee provides members with opportunities for activity-based networking while serving organizations in need. The committee’s main focus is conducting service projects for Hillside. Founded in 1888, Hillside is Atlanta's oldest organized charity. A private, not-for profit agency, Hillside provides quality, cost-effective treatment and education to severely emotionally disturbed children, adolescents and their families. Programs include intensive residential psychiatric treatment, therapeutic foster care and community-based family preservation services. Hillside's programs emphasize a supportive structured environment, individualized treatment plans and caring, functional families. BOMA-Atlanta also strives to conduct one construction-related project each year with another organization, leveraging the unique talents and skills of the membership to serve the community.
Since the BOMA-Atlanta Community Service Committee has adopted Hillside, the school has received more than $58,000 in cash, goods and services. Want to learn more about volunteering with this active, enthusiastic committee? If so, call the BOMA-Atlanta office at 404-475-9980.
Mountain Outing
Each year, BOMA-Atlanta organizes a mountain outing trip for Hillside kids. Committee members engage with the children in outdoor activities and teambuilding exercises. This year’s Mountain Outing event will be in May.
Lobby Events
Property and facility management companies have an opportunity to organize lobby events for tenants in their buildings and to designate a certain percentage of the revenue to benefit Hillside. The events provide much-needed revenue for Hillside while enabling member-buildings to serve the community.
Reading Program
Through the reading program, committee members make a commitment to volunteer every other Friday at 12:30 p.m. to read to children at Hillside.
Flemings Fundraising Event
BOMA-Atlanta annually hosts a social/networking fundraising event for Hillside at Flemings in the Perimeter area. The event features a reception, lunch, wine, a live auction and lots of networking time.
Holiday Party
Community Service Committee members annually assist with Hillside’s holiday party for the children. Opportunities are available to bring treats, socialize with the kids and network with peers.
Angel Tree
Each year, committee members construct an Angel Tree to provide gifts for the children at Hillside. Members may either make a donation or buy toys for the kids.
Landscaping Project
Each year, the Community Service Committee reviews landscaping needs on the Hillside campus and determines if they should engage in a landscaping project to serve the charity.
Pumpkin Patch
Volunteering time to unload and organize the annual pumpkin patch fundraiser is an ideal activity-based networking event. Members may also volunteer to staff the pumpkin patch and sell pumpkins to raise funds for Hillside. The event provides funding for the charity and also increases its awareness in the community.
Green Project
A sub-committee is evaluating the Hillside campus to determine if BOMA-Atlanta can assist the charity in making it more sustainable. Additional information on this project will be available once the full campus review has been conducted.
Home Aid Construction Project
New for 2009, BOMA-Atlanta will partner with Home Aid to organize a construction project to benefit the community. The project will leverage the unique talents and skills of the membership to serve the community. More information will be available in the near future. This year’s project will be on April 24.
